Activity description
The Robinson Mine is located in White Pine County, Nevada, at an average altitude of 2,130 meters above sea level. The mine includes three large pits: the currently active Ruth and areas without ongoing mining operations – Tripp-Veteran and Liberty.
The beginnings of the mine can be traced back to 1867, and the first mining operations focused mainly on gold and silver. However, in 1872, significant deposits of copper ore were discovered in the area of today's mine and a year later the exploitation of this red-colored metal began. Since then, with some minor breaks, copper, gold and silver and recently molybdenum has been extracted. The current production was resumed in 2004 after mining operations ceased in 1999 due to low global metal prices.
Mining is conducted by conventional open-pit methods. It comprises extraction using blasting materials, ore loading and transport to a processing plant. The ore is crushed and ground, and then subjected to flotation process. Produced concentrate is thickened and filtered. The copper concentrate with appropriate moisture level is then transported to storage facilities in Wendover, Nevada, from where it is transported to our customers.
